Claire Stephens

Senior Archaeological Geophysicist and CAD manager at GSB Prospection

Claire Stephens

Autobiography

Graduating from the University of Manchester in 1986 with a degree in Ancient History and Archaeology, Claire spent the next four years working as a digger/field archaeologist until her knees started to complain and she decided she needed to extricate herself from the mud. She took the masters course Scientific Methods in Archaeology at Bradford University, specialised in geophysics and wrote her masters dissertation on resistivity pseudosections (using modified resistance arrays to collect depth profiles). In 1991 she was fortunate enough to be employed at GSB Prospection where she remains to this day, as a (now senior) Archaeological Geophysicist and CAD manager.

Although most of the work she has undertaken comprises developer led evaluation surveys she has been involved in a number of research projects, including a survey of the environs of Butrint, Albania, a survey of a medieval site in Egypt (Tell Tinnis) and, most recently, a series of investigations along the Antonine Wall as part of Historic Scotland's successful bid for World Heritage Status.
